What the Back of the Book Says: A virus that had once been contained has returned, and soon no place will be left untouched by its destruction. But when seventeen-year-old Cheyenne wakes up in Elysian Fields–a subdivision cut off from the world and its monster-creating virus–she is thrilled to have a chance at survival.

At first, Elysian Fields, with its beautiful houses and manicured lawns, is perfect. Teo Richardson, the older man who stole Cheyenne’s heart, built it so they could be together. But when Teo tells Cheyenne there are tests that she and seven other couples must pass to be worthy of salvation, Cheyenne begins to question the perfection of his world.

The people they were before are gone. Cheyenne is now “Persephone,” and each couple has been re-named to reflect the most tragic romances ever told. Everyone is fighting to pass the test, to remain in Elysian Fields. Teo dresses them up, tells them when to move and how to act, and in order to pass the test, they must play along.

If they play it right, then they’ll be safe.

But if they play it wrong, they’ll die.

My Thoughts: First off, will I read this one? Yes, I think so. Is there a chance that I could totally forget about its existence by it’s release date A YEAR from now? Quite possibly. I think it sounds interesting, but it doesn’t sound unique to me. Whenever I see ‘Elysian Fields’ my mind immediately thinks ‘steampunk’ but I’m not sure why… and this sounds more dystopian-slash-post apocalyptic than steampunk to me. Also, the main character having her heart stolen by an ‘older man’? How much older? Is it going to be creepy, or is he just a few years older? I feel like everything’s very vague and I’m not sure why.
Now… onto the cover! I kind of really like it. Here’s why. The white to me represents a “blank canvas” so to speak. So if the “people they were before are gone…and each couple has been renamed…” to me that means starting over from scratch. Hence, “blank canvas”. And with the cover model (Assuming this is Cheyenne?) looks like she’s either going back together differently, or being taken apart, thus also fitting with the whole being recreated theme. I like the font used as well as the effect that has been placed on it. I think for the cover I’d give it a 5/5.
What are your thoughts?
